This delightful city was the capital of the Western Roman Empire between the 5th and 8th centuries, then of the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths and finally of the Byzantine Exarchate, and traces of this past are gathered in the splendid early Christian buildings and in its UNESCO monuments.
Ravenna is also the city that Dante Alighieri has chosen as the last refuge and which still preserves its memory and immortal remains.
